Webmail Interfaces and Setup Info
Email Software Setup
Info:
We support all standards-compliant email client software - Eudora,
Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, and literally hundreds more. Due
to the
vast number of these different programs, we can't provide specific
configuration information for each of them. The following basic information should suffice for most:
Incoming (POP3) Mail Server: pop.smileglobal.com
Incoming (IMAP) Mail Server: imap.smileglobal.com
Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server: smtp.smileglobal.com
For IMAP-SSL, please use port 993.
For POP3-SSL, please use port 995.
Whether you use an email client program or one of Smile's webmail interfaces,
your login/account is your full email address, e.g.
superman@bonq.com, not simply "superman".
For more detailed setup instructions specific to your email client software,
please review that software's built-in "Help" files -
virtually all software has this info. As well, the old standby of Google can answer any question a thousand times
faster than we can!
Frequency Of Mail Checks:
Please be
courteous in your use of our
resources - set your software to check
for new mail no more frequently than once every five minutes
. It's rare in life that anything is so urgent that waiting longer
than five minutes will be disastrous! We prefer customers set the
interval to ten or fifteen minutes (or more, if you like). Please
use your own good discretion. If you are expecting some extremely time
critical email, you may temporarily set your frequency to once
per minute.
Blocked SMTP: It is becoming
increasingly common for Internet Service
Providers to block SMTP connections outside of their networks.
In order to connect to Smile's SMTP server from these providers, we have an
alternative port available - 587. Simply configure your client
to connect to port 587, rather than the default port 25. This is found
in the 'Advanced' settings for most email client programs.
Please note: We formerly used port 2525 as our alternate SMTP submission
port. Port 2525 will remain in place indefinitely, however the evolving
standard is to use port 587 for this purpose, per RFC2476.
Netscape Mail:
Please note that due to technical limitations in older versions of
Netscape, you cannot use Netscape versions lower than 6.0 with our
service. If you wish to use Netscape Mail, you must upgrade to version 6 or higher.
WAP Gateway:
We have a simple WAP (Wireless Access Protocol) Gateway available for
customers using devices such as the "Blackberry" and appropriately
enabled cell phones. To access it, use the following URL:
http://wap.smileglobal.com/?u=address@some_smile_domain.com&p=your_password
Substituting your own email address for
"address@some_smile_domain.com" and your own password for
"your_password".
